Be Prepared

July 16, 2009

Do you ever have that feeling that you’re one step away from everything falling to pieces? I find that if everything in our household runs smoothly, no problem. But when someone gets sick, the nanny has to take the day off, the sink springs a leak — whatever it is, the monkey wrench is enough to upset the whole apple cart. (Can you tell I’m having one of those days?!) One way to help combat the problem before it becomes one is to be prepared, as the old army ads used to tell us.

First off, write down information you might need in an emergency. For your babysitters, why not list for them: your child’s name, birth date and blood type, national and local poison control numbers, your pediatrician, closest hospital, fire department, police department, your and your partner/spouse’s cell and work numbers, grandparents’ numbers (if applicable) and a close friend’s number. You might also want to list your kids’ school or camp numbers.

Other things to think about having on hand are a first aid kit, extra bottles of water, a phone with a cord that will work if the power goes out, and a radio that runs on batteries. You should also have a meeting spot that everyone is clear on, if there is some sort of emergency. It’s all just in case, but it may give you peace of mind and one less thing to worry about. Which I’ll take, any day.

Old Friends

I’ve had a few lunches recently with friends I hadn’t seen in a long while (like a few years), and it is so nice to reconnect. It reminds you that there are great people out there, and that with a true friend, it doesn’t matter how much time has passed by. It’s good for the soul to share memories and play the “whatever happened to…” game. So get on Facebook, connect with an old friend, and make a date to get together!

For the Boys

Look_18bFor whatever reason, I feel like guys can get away with cheaper clothes, especially in the summer. What on women may look well, cheap, on guys it just looks cool and casual. Converse One Star from Target is one such line that you may want to check out. Things tend to fall into the $20 – $40 range, and their shorts, tees and pullovers are all wearable and look stylish. You can see it online or go to your local store.

Etc.

I was so busy at work today I feel like I don’t even know what happened in the world. What out of line things did the Republicans say to Sotomayor?

Already looking forward to the weekend!!
